Artist’s Statement
I paint the joy, the color and the being of life.
Because I have a fondness for both people and pets, with sensitivity, my
portraits capture the uniqueness of their personalities. Painting is not only my
pact with other artists, it is a connection with people and with the wonder of
the world around me. Because art is an essential part of who I am, I find that
the more I paint, the more I have to paint.
About the Artist...
Mary Ann Cox
Mary
Ann Blackstock Cox , a native Georgian, has
pursued an artistic path since early childhood. “I
always wanted to be an artist”, she says. People
and pets are favorite subjects rendered in oil,
pastel and watercolor. Mary Ann also paints
landscape and still life in these three media.
Mary Ann received her Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from the University of Georgia and then
worked in the commercial art field. While raising
her two daughters, she renewed her love of
portraiture and painting through ongoing classes
and workshops.
Mary Ann’s painting entitled “Small Wonder”, was
selected to be one of the limited edition prints
for Scottish Rite Childrens’ Hospital. She was
commissioned by her national sorority to paint
it’s founders’ portrait. Mary Ann’s work is also
in numerous private collections and she has
attained the status of Juried Member of the
Portrait Society of Atlanta. She and her husband,
Paul Sheehy, are residents of Dawson County, GA.
